Interview with Sebi Serra, Intern at Alberta La Grup

At Alberta la Grup we believe a perfect symbiosis between universities and companies exists. In fact, we want to increasingly promote student support, giving visibility to the business world and, in particular, to Lifestyle Management. In this way, those who do internships at our agency have the chance to get to know the profession first-hand, and we – in turn – can learn from them, always considering theresponsibility of what it means to host interns, dedicating our time to them and being very clear that they are not here to do the job that nobody wants to do, but to fulfil an important role. That is why we want to give them a voice and tell their story. In this case, we interviewed Sebi Serra Domènech, who is helping us both in the Back Office department and supporting our team with customer requests. Above all, she shares his enthusiasm for learning and undertaking projects that show him a potential future profession that is opening up before him. Below he tells us all about it…

-Describe briefly how you found your internship at Alberta La Grup.

Through a teacher – also a contact of the director Lourdes Carbó – who gave me the opportunity to work in a company that was different from the others, as the type of service offered is unusual. I had my time to think about whether I would like to accept this challenge and in the end I decided to do it. I certainly don’t regret the decision.

 

-What is your role at Alberta La Grup? Explain briefly the work you are doing.

Right now, with the changes that the company has gone through and the modification of its organisational chart, I am officially part of the Back Office department, so I dedicate my time to helping with requests made by the Personal Angels (PAs) or Lourdes. It’s like a support function, where I don’t have direct contact with the client, but I do have direct contact with the suppliers and PAs. I have two lines of work: urgent help to the PAs with customer requests, and the (also) important and not so urgent projects where I work together with Lourdes Carbó.

 

-Where would you like to focus your professional career?

This is a difficult but important question. I still don’t know 100%. But I do know that I would like to do something in the area that I like the most, which for me means travelling, meeting new people, learning and living. My dream is to create a travel agency specialised in people with reduced mobility and to be able to improve the bad conditions for this particular market. But that is a long-term goal… first, I will have to learn and experience a lot of things.

-How is doing an internship at a company like ALG helping you in your future as a professional?

First of all, I’m learning to look at the detail of things, and that’s something that for me is a unique and powerful strength in this company. Then, managing requests, lives, travel and so on… these are challenges that I can take on board and with which I can gain experience that will serve me well in the future. On the other hand, professionalism, discretion and trust are values that will be very useful for my future, whatever it may be.

 

-What do you expect from this internship at Alberta La Grup?

Just one thing: to leave a trace. That is to say: to do, to transmit, to give and to get something positive out of my time spent here. I hope the team have learned something from me and that I have learned something from them. I don’t mind what it is, but that I remember them and they remember me is fundamental for the future. I always try to show the people around me that I have learnt from them.  I also believe that everyone has something important for others to learn from, and that’s something I think should be recognized and shared with others.

-Which of the tasks you perform best fit your profile or personality?

Giving to others. In this case, time and management of their lives. If there is one thing I know for sure about my professional future, it will be to live for others, because that’s who I am. It goes with my personality to take care of people and to empathise. In this way, making others happy makes me happy too.

 

-Are you surprised by how the company works? What been the most pleasant surprise?

Yes, I am. It works more like a small, family-run business, although that doesn’t mean it’s not one of the best in the world because – in fact – it is. It just doesn’t work like the typical company or the places I have worked before. I like that, because I get to understand how to organise a family business and how difficult it is, considering all that is involved in its management. On the other hand, it is true that in this company and during the time I have been here, what I consider most important is that the organisation and distribution is clearly defined and that the whole team knows what their area is. In addition, I am impressed by how complicated it is to manage this type of company and I believe that Lourdes is a role model and a reference that I will follow for my future start-up.

Entrevistamos a Sebi Serra, estudiante en prácticas en Alberta La Grup

 

En Alberta la Grup estamos a favor de que exista una perfecta simbiosis entre universidad y empresa. De hecho, queremos potenciar cada vez el apoyo al estudiante, dando visibilidad al mundo empresarial y el Lifestyle Management en particular. Con ello, quienes realizan prácticas en nuestra agencia tienen la posibilidad de conocer en primera persona la profesión, y nosotros -a su vez- aprendemos de ellos, siempre con la responsabilidad de lo que supone acoger estudiantes en prácticas, dedicarles nuestro tiempo y teniendo muy claro que no vienen a hacer el trabajo que nadie quiere realizar, sino que cumplen una importante función. Por ello, queremos darles voz y conocer su historia. En este caso, se trata de Sebi Serra Domènech, quien nos está ayudando tanto en el departamento de Back Office como ejerciendo de soporte a nuestro equipo en las peticiones de los clientes; y sobre todo, compartiendo su ilusión por aprender y emprender proyectos en el futuro profesional que se abre ante él. A continuación, nos lo cuenta

 

-Describe brevemente como llegaste a Alberta La Grup.

A través de una profesora -contacto de la directora Lourdes Carbó también-, quien me brindó la oportunidad de trabajar en una compañía diferente a las demás, pues el tipo de servicio ofrecido es poco común. Yo tuve mi tiempo para pensar si me gustaría aceptar este reto y al final decidí hacerlo. Sin duda, no me arrepiento de la decisión.

 

-¿Cuál es tu función en Alberta La Grup? Explica brevemente el trabajo que estás realizando.

Ahora mismo, con los cambios por los que ha pasado la empresa y la modificación de su organigrama, formo oficialmente parte del departamento de Back Office, por lo que dedico mi tiempo a la ayuda de peticiones encargadas por los Personal Angels (PAs) o Lourdes. Es como una función de soporte, donde no tengo el contacto directo con el cliente, pero sí con los proveedores y los PAs. Tengo dos líneas de trabajo: la ayuda urgente a los PA con las peticiones de los clientes, y por otro lado, los proyectos (también) importantes y no tan urgentes en los que trabajo conjuntamente con Lourdes.

 

-¿Dónde te gustaría enfocar tu carrera profesional?

Pregunta difícil pero a la vez, importante. Aún no lo sé 100%. Pero si sé que haciendo lo que más me guste; y para mí eso implica viajar, conocer, aprender y vivir. Yo tengo el sueño de crear una agencia de viajes especializada en personas con movilidad reducida y poder cambiar las malas condiciones que habitan en este segmento del mercado. Pero eso es una meta a largo plazo… antes deberé aprender y vivir muchas cosas.

-¿De qué manera te está ayudando en tu futuro profesional estar realizando prácticas en una empresa como ALG?

En primer lugar, estoy aprendiendo a fijarme en el completo detalle de las cosas, y es algo que para mí denota una fortaleza única y potente en esta empresa. Luego, gestionar peticiones, vidas, viajes y demás… son retos que puedo ir asimilando y saco experiencias que me servirán para mi futuro. Por otro lado, la profesionalidad, discreción y confianza, valores que me servirán mucho de cara a mi futuro, sea cual sea.

 

-¿Qué esperas de estas prácticas en Alberta La Grup?

Solo una cosa: dejar rastro. Es decir: hacer, transmitir, dar y sacar algo bueno de mi tiempo invertido aquí. Que ellos hayan aprendido algo de mí y yo algo de ellos. Me da igual qué, pero que yo me acuerde de ellos y ellos de mí es lo fundamental de cara a un futuro, y sobre todo, por mi forma de ser. Soy alguien que siempre busca hacer ver a las personas que le rodean que aprendo de ellas. Y soy de aquellos que creen que todo el mundo tiene algo importante para que los demás aprendan de ello, y es algo que creo que es honesto reconocer y hacer saber a las personas.

-¿Cuáles de las funciones que realizas creen que van más tu perfil o personalidad?

Dar a los demás. En este caso, un tiempo y gestión de sus vidas. Si algo tengo claro de mi futuro profesional, es que será vivir para los demás, porque así soy yo. Va con mi personalidad saber cuidar de la gente y empatizar. De esta forma, hacer feliz a los demás es hacerme feliz a mí mismo.

 

-¿Te está sorprendiendo cómo funciona por dentro la empresa? ¿Qué te ha sorprendido más gratamente?

Sí, la verdad. Su funcionamiento es más como el de una empresa pequeña y familiar, aunque eso no quiere decir que no sea de las mejores del mundo porque -de hecho- lo es. Simplemente, su funcionamiento no es como las empresas habituales o donde he trabajado anteriormente. Eso me gusta, ya que puedo conocer el sistema de cómo organizar una empresa familiar y lo difícil que es teniendo en cuenta todo lo que supone su gestión. Por otro lado, sí que es cierto que en esta empresa y durante el tiempo que llevo aquí, lo que considero más importante es que la organización y distribución quede claramente fijada y todo el equipo sepa cuál es su área. Además, estoy impresionado de lo complicado que es gestionar este tipo de empresas y creo que Lourdes es un modelo de persona y una referencia que seguiré para mi futura startup.
