“I basically fell in love with the Residential Concierge job”

Interview with Javier Buch, who is currently working his first job as a Residential Lifestyle Concierge at Alberta La Grup

Javi, as everyone calls him, started as an intern at Alberta La Grup and chose to stay on as a Residential Lifestyle Concierge. He wanted to learn more about a sector that he was previously unfamiliar with and that was opening up before his eyes as a good opportunity for his future career path. For Javi, it all started with the ‘university-industry’ link, so he is a clear example of how the internship opportunity offered to students can lead to their first job, as well as being a way to approach his professional career and continue learning. 

 

-What brought you to Alberta La Grup?

I came to Alberta La Grup through a presentation about the company at CETT UB, the university where I studied Tourism. I loved the presentation and found it very interesting to learn about the world of Concierge and the personalized customer service they provide. After that, I went to see the Antares tower and I loved the work they did there. I basically fell in love with the job.

 

-After your time at the company as an intern, you asked to stay and explore this profession further. What attracted you to this professional field and to ALG in particular?

Above all, I stayed with the company because it’s a great company and it was clear to me that I had a lot to learn about Residential Lifestyle Concierge, and also the PA world.

 

-How would you describe your role over the last year?

I would define it as a liaison between the residents and the different services available in the building. We can also coordinate social events, activities and experiences exclusive to the residents; such as wine tastings, cooking classes, sporting events, trips and excursions.

 

-How would you explain the Residential Lifestyle Concierge job to someone who is not familiar with it?

The Residential Lifestyle Concierge job role involves being a highly organised, customer service oriented professional capable of handling a wide range of resident requests and needs. The main objective is to provide a luxurious and hassle-free experience, ensuring that residents feel welcome and cared for in their residential environment.

 

-What have you taken away from your time at Alberta La Grup and how do you think it will influence your next professional endeavours?

I have gained a lot from the experience, most of all the people I have met within the company, who have helped me a lot from the very first moment, as I started without any experience in this sector. In addition, I will take with me many things that I have been learning and improving day by day, such as English, contact with suppliers and residents, coordinating with my colleagues and much more!

-How would you define the importance of this type of internship for university students in companies?

I think that in this type of internship in ‘smaller’ companies, in my case, with ALG, you are able learn more, as you have much more follow-up from your colleagues, and also, they help you a lot and give you very good advice. The truth is that I don’t think I could have found a better internship than this with Alberta La Grup.

-What skills do you think a Residential Concierge should have? What would you say to recommend this career path to young people looking for a job that suits their profile?

For me, the most important quality is to be very ‘Customer Oriented’, i.e. positive and with the ability to anticipate the needs of the residents. A Residential Concierge has to be a very sociable person who is able to engage in good conversation with the residents, and thus get to know their tastes, hobbies, etc. This allows you to offer a very personalised service to the resident and, as I said before, anticipate their needs. I would recommend this profession simply by giving examples of our daily tasks. There are such interesting requests and you get so involved with them that it becomes personal… as if you were doing it for yourself.

 

 

-Could you tell us an anecdote or curiosity that has happened to you while working here?

Thousands of things have happened to me while working at Antares… So many that I wouldn’t know where to begin. From floods in the lobby to helium balloons in the shape of a heart on the ceiling, which is about 3 floors high. Of all of them, I would choose this one: In June, Primavera Sound takes place close to the building, which means a party and lots of people drinking close to the entrance of the building… It was one of my first days there and I went in at 7am to cover on a Saturday. Basically, the security guy didn’t know me yet and wouldn’t open the door for me, as he thought I was just another person at the party.

Entrevista a Javier Buch, cuyo primer trabajo ha sido como Residential Lifestyle Concierge con Alberta La Grup

Javi, que es como todos le llaman, empezó de becario en Alberta La Grup y escogió quedarse y continuar como Residential Lifestyle Concierge. Deseaba explorar más acerca de un sector que anteriormente desconocía y que se abría ante sus ojos como una buena oportunidad para encauzar su futuro. En su caso, todo arrancó con el vínculo ‘universidad-empresa’, con lo cual, él es un claro ejemplo de cómo la oportunidad que se ofrece al estudiante con las prácticas puede llevarle a transformarse en su primer trabajo; y además, en una manera de enfocar su carrera profesional, y por supuesto, de aprendizaje.  

 

-¿Cómo llegaste a Alberta La Grup? 

A Alberta La Grup llegué a través de una presentación de su empresa en el CETT UB, universidad donde estudio Turismo. En esa presentación me encantó y me pareció muy interesante conocer y aprender con ellos el mundo de la Conserjería y el trato tan personalizado a sus clientes. Después de aquello, fui a ver la torre Antares y me encantó el trabajo que hacían allí. Básicamente me enamoré del puesto.

 

-Tras tu paso por la empresa como becario, pediste quedarte y explorar más en esta profesión. ¿Qué es lo que te atrajo de este ámbito profesional y de ALG en particular?

Sobre todo, me quedé en la empresa porque estaba muy bien y tenía claro que me quedaba mucho por aprender de Residential Lifestyle Concierge, e incluso un poco del mundo PA.

 

-Descripción del puesto que has estado desempeñando este último año.

Lo definiría como un enlace entre los residentes y los diversos servicios disponibles en el edificio. También nos podemos encargar de coordinar eventos sociales, actividades y experiencias exclusivas para los residentes; como catas de vinos, clases de cocina, eventos deportivos, viajes y excursiones.

 

-¿Cómo explicarías a quien no conozca este trabajo en qué consiste la figura del Residential Lifestyle Concierge?

El puesto de trabajo de Residential Lifestyle Concierge implica ser un profesional altamente organizado, orientado al servicio al cliente y capaz de gestionar una amplia gama de solicitudes y necesidades de los residentes. El objetivo principal es proporcionar una experiencia de vida lujosa y sin complicaciones, asegurándose de que los residentes se sientan bienvenidos y cuidados en su entorno residencial.

 

-¿Qué te llevas de tu paso por Alberta La Grup? ¿Y de qué manera piensas que te va a influir en tus próximos proyectos profesionales?

Me llevo, sobre todo, a la gente que he conocido dentro de la empresa, los cuales me han ayudado mucho desde el primer momento, ya que entré sin ninguna experiencia en este sector. Además, me llevo muchas cosas que he ido aprendiendo y mejorando en el día a día, como el inglés, el contacto con los proveedores y residentes, la organización con mis compañeros ¡y mucho más!

-En tu caso, ese vínculo de Universidad- Empresa te llevó hasta aquí. ¿Cómo definirías la importancia de este tipo de prácticas destinadas a estudiantes universitarios en empresas?

Creo que en este tipo de prácticas en empresas más ‘pequeñas’, en mi caso, con ALG, tienes un aprendizaje mayor, ya que tienes mucho más seguimiento por parte de tus compañeros, y además, te ayudan mucho y te dan muy buenos consejos. La verdad es que no creo que haya podido encontrar unas mejores prácticas que éstas con Alberta La Grup.

-¿Qué aptitudes ha de tener para ti un Residential Concierge? ¿Cómo recomendarías esta salida profesional a jóvenes que busquen un puesto de trabajo adaptado a su perfil?

Para mí, la cualidad más importante es ser muy ‘Customer Oriented’, es decir, positivo y con la capacidad de anticiparse a las necesidades de los residentes. Un Residential Concierge tiene que ser una persona muy social y que sea capaz de entablar una buena conversación con los residentes, y así, conocer sus gustos, manías, hobbies, etcétera. Con ello, le puedes ofrecer un trato muy personalizado al residente, y como dije antes, anticiparte a sus necesidades. Recomendaría esta profesión simplemente dando ejemplos de lo que se hace aquí cada día. Hay peticiones tan interesantes y te involucras tanto con éstas, que ya se convierte en algo personal… como si lo hicieses para ti.

 

 

-¿Nos podrías contar alguna anécdota o curiosidad que te haya ocurrido trabajando aquí?

Trabajando en Antares me han ocurrido miles de cosas… Tantas, que no sabría por dónde empezar. Desde inundaciones en el lobby hasta globos de helio con forma de corazón en el techo del lobby, que mide como 3 plantas… Pero yo me quedaría con ésta: enfrente de Antares, en junio, se hace el Primavera Sound, lo que significa fiesta y mucha gente en la entrada del edificio y bebiendo… Eran mis primeros días allí y entraba a las 7 de la mañana a cubrir un sábado, y básicamente, el de seguridad aún no me conocía y no me abría la puerta, ya que pensaba que era una persona más de la fiesta.
